Himalayan mountains at dawn

Where ancient earth
meets modern science

"Sodhana — from the Sanskrit root Śodhana — means to purify, to refine, to transform. We chose this name not as branding, but as a compass."

We are based in Kathmandu, Nepal — at the foot of the mountains that produce the world's finest shilajit. Our proximity is not incidental. It is the foundation of everything we do.

We know our collectors by name. We visit the source sites in Dolpa and Mustang. We have watched the resin seep from rock faces at dawn. That experience informs every decision we make.

Why discerning buyers
choose us

01 — Sourcing
GPS-verified Himalayan collection

Raw shilajit is hand-collected above 3,000 metres in Dolpa and Mustang — two of Nepal's most remote high-altitude districts. Our collectors are paid above-market rates and have been working with the same rock faces for over a decade. We do not source from third-party aggregators. We know the altitude, the season, and the face of every batch.

02 — Purification
Authentic 7-stage Surya Tapi method

We follow the classical Ayurvedic Surya Tapi protocol — seven stages of aqueous extraction, solar evaporation, and multi-stage micron filtration. No solvents. No artificial heat. The process concentrates fulvic acid, removes heavy metals, and preserves the full spectrum of dibenzo-α-pyrones (DBPs) that most brands destroy through shortcut processing.

03 — Testing
NABL-accredited third-party lab verification

Every batch is independently tested at an NABL-accredited laboratory before sealing. We test for fulvic acid percentage, heavy metal panel (arsenic, lead, mercury, cadmium — all below WHO limits), and microbial safety. Every jar carries a batch number. Every batch has a publicly downloadable Certificate of Analysis on our Lab Reports page.

04 — Packaging
Borosilicate glass. No plastic. Ever.

We use only borosilicate glass jars with induction-sealed, tamper-evident lids. No plastic touches your shilajit at any stage. Borosilicate glass does not leach chemicals, maintains temperature stability, and is fully recyclable. The ceremonial horn spoon included with every jar is hand-sourced from Kathmandu artisans — not a factory accessory.

Dolpa & Mustang,
Nepal

Remote Himalayan districts above 3,000 metres where millennia of geological compression have created the world's most mineral-dense shilajit resin. Raw shilajit rock here costs NPR 3,000–8,000/kg from direct collectors — we pay fair-trade premiums above market rate.

What is inside
pure shilajit

Shilajit's therapeutic power comes from a complex matrix of bioactive compounds found in no other single substance in nature.

Fa
Fulvic Acid

The primary active compound. A low-molecular-weight organic acid that enhances cellular nutrient uptake, increases ATP production, combats oxidative stress, and crosses the blood-brain barrier. Sodhana resin contains ≥60% fulvic acid — verified by independent lab testing.

Ha
Humic Acid

Provides prebiotic support for gut microbiome diversity, binds and removes heavy metal toxins, enhances mineral absorption efficiency, and carries antiviral and antibacterial properties documented in peer-reviewed research.

DB
Dibenzo-α-Pyrones (DBPs)

Unique mitochondria-supporting molecules found almost exclusively in shilajit. DBPs directly enhance the electron transport chain, supporting deeper cellular energy production. Most processing methods destroy them — our low-heat Surya Tapi method preserves full DBP integrity.

84
84+ Ionic Trace Minerals

Including zinc, magnesium, iron, copper, selenium, manganese, potassium, and silicon — present in naturally chelated, ionic form. Ionic minerals are absorbed directly without requiring enzymatic conversion, offering significantly higher bioavailability than mineral supplements.

Why I built
Sodhana

"I started Sodhana because I saw one of the most powerful substances in Ayurvedic medicine being sold in black plastic tubs with promises borrowed from the gym supplement industry. Shilajit deserves more than that."

Based in Kathmandu, I spent two years visiting collection sites in Dolpa and Mustang before the first jar of Sodhana was ever filled. I know the altitude, the season, the collector, the rock face. That is the only way to build a brand I would trust myself.

Sodhana is not a supplement company with shilajit in its portfolio. It is a shilajit company — with the sourcing depth, processing rigour, and scientific accountability that the substance deserves.

How to use
Sodhana Shilajit

01
Measure your portion

Use the ceremonial horn spoon to scoop a pea-sized portion — approximately 300–500mg. The dark, glossy resin should be firm at room temperature and slightly sticky.

02
Dissolve in warm liquid

Add to warm water, warm milk (dairy or plant-based), or herbal tea. Temperature should be comfortable to drink — never boiling. Above 65°C degrades fulvic acid. Stir until fully dissolved (30–60 seconds).

03
Take in the morning

On an empty stomach, 30 minutes before breakfast or your first meal. This maximises absorption and sets the metabolic tone for the day. Consistent daily use — not occasional doses — produces the deepest results.

04
Allow 3–4 weeks

Most practitioners report improved energy and sleep quality within 2–3 weeks. Deeper benefits — joint comfort, hormonal balance, immunity — build over 6–8 weeks of daily practice. Shilajit rewards consistency.

Recommended Dose: 300–500mg daily · Do not exceed 1g per day · Consult a healthcare provider if pregnant, breastfeeding, or on medication.

Our Story

Purification is not
a process. It is a devotion.

Sodhana was born from a question: why is one of the most powerful substances in Ayurvedic medicine sold in black plastic containers with promises borrowed from the gym supplement industry?

The answer, we found, was a market that had chosen convenience over conviction — and marketing over accountability. Shilajit has been described in the Charaka Samhita, one of the foundational texts of Ayurveda, as a Rasayana of extraordinary potency. The 2,000-year-old text states: "There is no curable disease in the universe which is not cured by shilajit when administered at the right time, in the right dose, to the right person, in combination with the right medicines." That is the substance we are working with. It deserved better than a black plastic tub with a testosterone graphic.

"Sodhana — from the Sanskrit Śodhana — means to purify, to refine, to transform. We chose this name not as branding, but as a compass for every decision we make."

We are based in Kathmandu, Nepal — at the foot of the mountains that produce some of the world's finest shilajit. Our proximity is not incidental. It is the foundation of everything we do. We know our collectors by name. We visit the source sites in Dolpa and Mustang. We have watched the resin seep from rock faces at dawn at 4,000 metres. That experience is irreplaceable, and it informs every decision we make.

We are a bioscience company because we believe ancient wisdom and modern science are not in opposition — they are each other's confirmation. Lab testing confirms what tradition has always known. Fulvic acid quantification, heavy metal screening, microbial testing — these are not skepticism toward Ayurveda. They are respect for it. And they are the only way to protect the consumer from the epidemic of adulterated shilajit flooding every marketplace on earth.

Sodhana is not a supplement company with shilajit as one SKU in a portfolio. It is a shilajit company. Entirely. Every decision, every resource, every relationship is built around one substance — handled with the depth, rigour, and reverence it deserves.

The Substance

What is Shilajit?

Shilajit is a naturally occurring mineral exudate — formed over millions of years as organic matter compressed beneath Himalayan rock. It is not manufactured. It is collected.

The Himalayan mountain range contains some of the highest concentrations of ancient organic matter on earth. As plant matter, microbial life, and mineral-rich soil were compressed over geological timescales by shifting tectonic plates, they underwent a humification process — breaking down into an extraordinarily dense matrix of fulvic acid, humic acid, trace minerals, and unique bioactive molecules found nowhere else in nature.

During the warmer months, this dense resin exudes from cracks and fissures in high-altitude rock faces — visible as a dark, tar-like substance. At altitudes above 3,000 metres in districts like Dolpa and Mustang in Nepal, the geological conditions produce shilajit with measurably higher mineral density and fulvic acid content than lower-altitude sources.

In Ayurveda, shilajit is classified as a Rasayana — a rejuvenating substance that promotes longevity, cognitive function, physical vitality, and deep cellular nutrition. The Charaka Samhita dedicates an entire section to its properties, noting its role in supporting every tissue system of the body when properly purified and administered.

Fa
Fulvic Acid ≥60%

Sodhana's primary verifiable quality metric. We test and publish the fulvic acid percentage for every batch. At 60% minimum (70% for Reserve grade), our resin is among the highest-tested concentrations commercially available.

Ha
Humic Acid

Works synergistically with fulvic acid for gut microbiome support, heavy metal chelation, and antiviral properties. Present in naturally balanced ratios in properly purified shilajit resin.

DB
DBPs (Dibenzo-α-Pyrones)

Mitochondria-supporting molecules unique to shilajit. Most thermal processing methods destroy them. Our low-heat solar evaporation preserves full DBP integrity — a key differentiator from competitor brands that use shortcuts.

84
84+ Ionic Trace Minerals

Zinc, magnesium, iron, copper, selenium and 79+ more — in naturally chelated ionic form with direct cellular absorption. No synthetic mineral additives. The mineral profile reflects the geological character of our specific source sites.

The Purification

Seven stages of sacred refinement

High altitude collection
Stage 01 — Collection

Hand-harvested from
Himalayan rock faces

Our collectors ascend above 3,000 metres in Dolpa and Mustang during the summer months — the only season when shilajit seeps visibly from rock fissures. Collection is done exclusively by hand with traditional tools. The raw resin is immediately sealed in clay-lined vessels for transport to our Kathmandu processing facility.

Altitude: 3,000–5,000m · Summer collection
Water purification
Stage 02–03 — Filtration & Extraction

From rock to
pure aqueous extract

Raw shilajit is dissolved in triple-stage RO-purified water at controlled temperatures. This aqueous extraction separates the bioactive fulvic and humic acid complexes from insoluble rock particles. A coarse-to-fine cloth filtration precedes the aqueous stage to remove macro-particulates without heat.

RO water · No heat · No solvents
Solar evaporation Surya Tapi
Stage 04 — Surya Tapi

Three thousand years of
solar purification

The Surya Tapi method — solar evaporation under open Himalayan sky — is the defining stage of our process. The aqueous extract is spread in shallow stainless steel trays and concentrated under direct sunlight over multiple days. Solar UV simultaneously sterilises the material while concentrating bioactive compounds. No artificial heat is used. DBP integrity is preserved.

Traditional · Ayurvedic · Solar · 3-day process
Precision filtration
Stage 05–06 — Precision Filtration & Lab Verification

Modern precision
meets ancient process

Post-evaporation, the concentrated resin passes through multi-stage micron filtration — 200μ, 100μ, 50μ — removing all remaining particulates while preserving fulvic acid molecules. A sample from every batch is then dispatched to an NABL-accredited laboratory for independent analysis before proceeding to filling.

Hand filling glass jars
Stage 07 — Sealing

Hand-filled, induction sealed,
batch traceable

Verified batches are hand-filled into borosilicate glass jars — never plastic — and sealed with induction-lined tamper-evident lids. Each jar carries a batch number that links directly to its Certificate of Analysis, downloadable from our Lab Reports page. The ceremonial horn spoon is wrapped and placed inside each order by hand in our Kathmandu facility.
