WHAT IS SHILAJIT

Ancient substance. Modern relevance.

Shilajit is a naturally occurring mineral-rich substance found within mountainous rock formations. Before asking what Shilajit can do, it helps to first understand what it is, where it comes from and why preparation matters.

01 UNDERSTANDING SHILAJIT

Before you consume it, understand it.

Shilajit has been part of traditional wellness practices for generations. Today, it appears everywhere — from resin and powders to capsules and gummies.

But before asking what Shilajit can do, there is a more fundamental question: What exactly is it?

This is Shilajit, without the exaggerated promises.

02 START WITH THE BASICS

Shilajit begins in rock, not in a factory.

Shilajit is a naturally occurring substance found within mountainous rock formations, most famously across the Himalayas.

What comes from the mountain is raw Shilajit. It may contain rock particles, soil and other naturally occurring material from its environment.

Which means what comes from the mountain is only the beginning. Raw Shilajit must be carefully purified before it becomes something intended for consumption.

03 A PROCESS MEASURED IN GENERATIONS

Nature takes its time.

Shilajit is believed to form through the gradual transformation and decomposition of organic matter within mountainous environments over extended periods of time.

Plant material, microorganisms, minerals, pressure, temperature and surrounding geology all contribute to the complex substance that eventually emerges from rock.

That complexity is part of what makes Shilajit unlike a conventional herbal extract.

4 THE ENVIRONMENT MATTERS

Shilajit carries the story of where it forms.

Altitude, geology, climate and local organic matter influence the environment in which Shilajit develops.

For Sodhana, this makes provenance important. Where Shilajit comes from isn't a marketing detail. It is part of understanding the material itself.

Our journey begins in the high-altitude Himalayan regions of Nepal, where the raw material for Sodhana is sourced.

05 RAW VS PURIFIED

Natural doesn't automatically mean ready to consume.

Raw Shilajit exists within a natural environment. It may contain unwanted physical material and other impurities that need to be removed before the finished product is prepared.

What nature gives

A raw natural material shaped by rock, geology and its environment.

What reaches the jar

Material that has been extracted, separated, filtered and carefully refined.

Don't only ask, “Is this natural?” Ask, “How was this purified?”

06 NATURALLY COMPLEX

Measured, not assumed.

Shilajit is a complex natural substance containing a mixture of organic compounds and naturally occurring mineral constituents.

Among its most widely discussed components are humic substances, including fulvic acid.

The amount present can vary depending on source and processing. For that reason, we prefer measurement over assumption.

07 TRADITIONAL CONTEXT

Shilajit isn't a modern discovery.

Long before Shilajit appeared in supplements and social-media advertisements, it had a place within traditional systems of wellness in the Indian subcontinent.

Classical Ayurvedic literature discusses Shilajit and the importance of appropriate purification and preparation before use.

We honour the tradition without using it as a substitute for evidence.

FROM RAW MATERIAL TO REFINED RESIN

The mountain creates Shilajit. Purification determines what reaches you.

Sourcing is only one part of quality. Once raw Shilajit leaves its natural environment, responsibility shifts to the people preparing it.

LOOK BEYOND THE LABEL

“Pure Himalayan Shilajit” is a claim. Quality requires more information.

Packaging alone cannot tell you whether a Shilajit product deserves your trust. There are better questions to ask.

01

Where does it come from?

Look for clarity around provenance rather than vague references to “the Himalayas.”

02

How was it purified?

Raw Shilajit and purified Shilajit are not the same thing.

03

Has it been tested?

Look for meaningful laboratory verification rather than simply the words “lab tested.”

04

Can you see the evidence?

If a brand makes measurable purity or composition claims, ask whether the supporting information is accessible.

05

Is the brand clear about what it doesn't know?

Transparency includes knowing where claims should stop.

THE TRADITIONAL FORM

Some things are better experienced than hidden.

Today, Shilajit is available in capsules, powders, tablets, gummies and other formats.

Sodhana chose resin. Partly because of its connection to traditional Shilajit preparation, but also because resin keeps the substance visible.

See its dark colour.
Experience its characteristic consistency.
Watch a small amount leave the applicator.
See it disperse through warm water.

Nothing hidden behind a capsule shell.

A preparation. A practice. A ritual.

SEPARATING SUBSTANCE FROM HYPE

Shilajit doesn't need mythology disguised as science.

Search online and you'll find extraordinary promises attached to Shilajit. Some come from traditional use. Some come from emerging scientific research. And some come from marketing.

Those are not the same thing.

We'd rather tell you less — and be able to stand behind it.
WHAT SCIENCE IS STILL LEARNING

Ancient use. Modern questions.

Modern researchers have investigated Shilajit, its composition and its potential biological properties.

That research is useful — but the quality, scale and relevance of individual studies vary, and research into Shilajit continues to evolve.

Our approach is straightforward: be curious about the science. Be precise about what it actually proves.

NOW YOU KNOW WHAT TO ASK

Understanding Shilajit changes how you choose it.

Origin matters.
Selection matters.
Purification matters.
Handling matters.
Testing matters.
Transparency matters.
Not to ask for your trust. To give you reasons for it.
